It is with great excitement that we announce that our firm's very own Bob Masella will be inducted into Winthrop Athletics Hall of Fame. Attorney Masella is being honored for his superb athletic skills, particularly as a soccer player.
Attorney Masella attended Winthrop College and joined the soccer team as a goalie, where he played for one year. In his season as a goalie, Masella was invited to the NSCAA All-American Team, the NSCAA All-Region Team, the NAIA All-Area Team, and the NAIAI All-District 6 Team. He has been lauded as one of the most honored men's soccer players in Winthrop's history.
Masella ranks first on the school's all-time single season save percentage list. He is also tied for seventh in single season shutouts.
Unfortunately, Masella's career ended abruptly after he was injured in an automobile accident. Although he was only able to play on the team for one season, Masella's skills and efforts cannot be ignored, even today.
Attorney Masella's Current Athletic Career
Masella's injuries did not set him back for long and his athletic career continues today. He has competed in two marathons, and his fastest time was 2:29:29, when he ran the Chicago Marathon raising money for Leukemia research. He began competing in wheelchair tennis, which first became popular in 1976. Masella is nationally ranked and a three-time U.S. Open Champion in doubles. Masella also competes in his wheelchair against others who compete in everyday USTA League tennis matches standing up.
Masella has lead more than a dozen USTA teams to State and Sectional Championships. Has was honored to be named National Captain of the Year in July 2013. As a team captain for the United States Tennis Association's (USTA) Southern Section, Masella has proved himself to be a true competitor for others in the league. Masella also serves as legal counsel for USTA District of South Carolina
Athletics are not the only competitive activity Masella excels in. He is extremely competitive in the court room and fights hard for his clients. He is the founder of Masella Law Firm, P.A. with nearly 30 years of successful practice as an attorney herein South Carolina.
